The pickup

We had been looking forward to this day since well before we even left for our trip. We knew leaving the boys behind was going to be hard on us and it was. We thought about them and talked about them every day and finally, it was time to pick them up.

Almost home.

Our last night in Berlin wasn’t very pleasant. We couldn’t get in the same hotel that we stayed in for the first two nights and they suggested their sister hotel just down the road. Continue reading

Smooth, but almost not…

We casually woke up today and had breakfast in the hotel and, for lack of anything else to do we decided to hit the road. Our train didn’t leave until 5:30 anyway so there was no rush, right? Right… Continue reading

Last leg(s)

We were pretty beat by the time we got to the ridiculous hotel with no wifi in the room hotel so we kicked back for a bit in the stinking lobby and then ventured out to the old town square. Continue reading

Getting a little Medieval on our butts

****RANT: We booked this hotel in Nuremburg last night and everything looked fine. When we check in she tells me that there is no wifi in the room. WHA??? What kind of place doesn’t offer wifi these days? Sure you expect a fee, but a 4 star at over $200 for the night and you have to sit in the lobby to use your wifi? Ridiculous. /Rant****

With our change in plans, we decided to forego Munich and the fancy Disneyland Castle and, on a relatives’ Barbstrong suggestion, decided to head north to a beautiful Medieval town called Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Continue reading

Both Hitch and I felt the same way when we crossed back into Germany from Czech. We felt like we were going home. It’s funny since we have only spent a few days there, but we both love it and are comfortable there.

Prague

Warning: some of the pictures are crap because I was either walking or taking them through a bus window.

What an unbelievable city! I have never seen anything like it. We entered the city on a very modern freeway surrounded by modern businesses like Oracle, Samsung and a bunch of others that I can’t remember the name of that we would recognize in N. America, but as soon as you head ever so slightly into the city that’s where the similarities to America end.

Off to Prague

Because Auschwitz was so busy today we got a little later start than we had hoped. We would have been fine but I was paranoid about buying the ‘vignette'(a little sticker) that is required to drive in the Czech Republic. In place of toll booths they have you buy a little highway pass that must be displayed in the lower right of your windshield or you can be fined quite a bit. Continue reading

Aucshwitz

The day started with a simple breakfast of fruit, a little baked salmon and some nuts. There was more available but I just haven’t felt overly hungry. We actually haven’t eaten all that much this trip so perhaps my stomach is shrinking wishful thinking. Continue reading
